Decatur between 194th and 195th

My Block

When peace is around

All of a sudden it hits the ground.

I was almost asleep. No noise, no violence.

Then a gunshot interrupted the silence.

The peace had just disappeared.

Then ANOTHER gunshot blasted my ear.

I looked out the window and I saw three cops.

One of them almost got hit by a gunshot.

I saw the cops. I knew they were frightened.

One looked like he was thinking they shouldn’t be fighting.

Then the drug dealer, he started to run.

That looked like the cops went out to hunt.

This reminded me of the wars between cowboys.

One cop ran away cause he knows a gun is not a toy.

I could see smoke coming out the gun.

Then some guy just started to run.

My whole family was nervous, I could see it in their faces.

Then I said, “Mom, we could just live in other places!”

I wished I wasn’t there at that time.

It was like the past of my life came through my mind.

After a while, there was peace.

This sounds like a lesson someone could teach.

I was scared too, I got to admit that.

That’s the feeling you always get around my block.
